According to the UN Food Aid Agency, in late December, a joint convoy of nine trucks reached people in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza. The people of that area have been deprived of assistance for the past 75 days.
Pictures taken by UN staff show desperate Gazans running from their shelters for bottled water, flour and canned food.
The World Food Program has sent 101 requests to Israeli authorities since the start of the Israeli offensive on 6 October: including a convoy on 20 December.
‘Danger of famine is increasing’
UN disaster relief coordinator Tom Fletcher warned on Monday that the “almost total (Israeli) blockade” of the northern region was increasing the risk of famine.
As winter approaches in overcrowded southern Gaza, conditions are leading to “horrendous living conditions and even greater humanitarian needs”.
Tom Fletcher met with UN staff, partners and communities in several Middle Eastern countries last week.
He described Gaza as the most dangerous place in the world to deliver humanitarian aid.
It is noteworthy that in the past year, Gaza has been the place where more humane killings have occurred than in any other year on record.
The deterioration of law and order and the looting of UN humanitarian aid supplies by armed groups are raising additional concerns.
Israeli forces continue to attack northern Gaza. The Israeli blockade, along with severely limiting food aid supplies, has deprived 15,000 people of food, water, electricity and healthcare.
Mass killings and injuries continue in the Gaza Strip.
According to media reports, at least 20 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes last night, including Al-Mawasi. This area has been declared as humanitarian area.
In addition, Israeli attacks have also been carried out on al-Nusirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
