In the eastern part of the Congo Democratic Republic, there is a fight between a rebel group called M3 and Government Protection Force. In this situation, more than 40,000 refugees have turned into Burundi in February and 9,000 people have arrived there this week.
Most people are resorting to advanced boats in the risky situation to cross the Rasizi River on the Burundi, DRC and Rwanda border.
UNHCR correspondent in Burundi, Bridget Mukanga-Acho told reporters in Geneva that Dr. Kango’s degraded protection situation also influenced Burundi.
In the last few weeks, a large number of DRC citizens are coming here.

Increase the number of displaced
The UN agency welcomed the Burundi government’s decision under which those who are saving their lives from violent conflict will be given the first refugee status. However, due to the number of people looking for refugees, the pressure on local resources is also increasing.
Representative of the UNHCR said that this first national number of people arrived in Burundi in a few days.
“It was the last time it was last 2000 years when everyone faced the understanding of humanists not only in the government, but also in the country.”
Many have traveled on foot for several days. The UN agency representative said of a woman who took this journey with her kids, when her kids had already died.
Welcome
The Burundi government has temporarily arranged for refugees under the open sky and arrangements have been made between their schools and churches. However, there is a huge crowd in these centers and it is dangerous to be located near the border areas.
The government has allocated the land with the intention of making these shelters more sustainable, but now people are forced to stay in schools and stadiums without adequate shelter.
UNHCR personnel are present on the ground and are busy providing food, water and cleanliness to the needy. Meanwhile, the incidents of Khasra disease have been detected, after which the emergency vaccine has been started.
On the other hand, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has provided water tanks, while the World Food Program (WFP) provided hot food for people coming to shelter.
There is intense pressure on medical services and many have faced additional violence before reaching Burundi. Psychiatric support services are needed immediately.
Regional displacement
The people who have moved away from violence in the DRC have taken shelter in neighboring countries in addition to Burundi.
From January 1,000 people arrived in Uganda, on February 7, 4 refugees arrived in Tanzania, which the most people were coming in one day.
The United Nations Refugee Agency, Dr. Congo, will provide life -efficient assistance to two million people with $ 1 million appeal.
Also, more than two and a half million people in Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia have been called more support from donors.
