Sudan: urethi, urge to increase the support of the needy in violence, displacement

UN chief spokesman Stepan Duzrik issued a statement on Wednesday a statement on behalf of the general secretary, where he warned of huge humanitarian needs in the violence.

He said that about two weeks ago, the displacement camps located between famine and Abu Shobe were attacked, where hundreds of ordinary citizens, including humanitarian assistance workers, were killed.

Two years have passed since the violent conflict between Sudan’s armed military and paramilitary forces (RSF) in April 2021. There is deep insecurity in the country and lacking assistance for the needy.

The general secretary said that despite the current financial challenges, UN agencies are trying to increase the emergency support level in the Tavila region of North Darfur. In this region, most of the immigrants who have fled after their lives from the Jamjam camp have taken shelter.

Earlier this month, about four lakh people were estimated to escape from the Jamjam camp. Border posts have been revealed in the events of harassment, intimidating and voluntary detention.

The UN World Food Program is also meeting food assistance and other requirements including health, nutrition, water, cleanliness.

It is reported that Sudan’s humanitarian fund has so far published $ 1.4 million for the local and international partnerships, so that relief can be done in Tavila and other areas of North Darfur.

Meanwhile, the initial treatment supply for Khartom from the WFP has entered the city. The distribution of about 70 metric tons for eight thousand people in the old region will be started soon.

Relief supplies will be distributed in the main region of the capital Khartom when this will be the first after the onset of violent conflict two years ago.

Assist and apply for ceasefire

The UN chief emphasized that Sudan’s humanitarian assistance requirements are in a large size and desperate people, including women and children, crossed the border and reached Chad in search of protection and support.

Violence against ordinary citizens continues in other regions of Sudan and in the past few days, the massacre of Omdurman in Khartum province has been reported.

Antonio Gutresh emphasized that this violent conflict has now entered the third year and it is also affecting the situation in the greater region.

In view of this, he has repeated an application to provide helpless assistance to the needy from the potential population. Also, all alert aspects must fill their fixed obligations under the International Humanist Act.

He claimed that criminals’ accountability should be determined in serious cases of human rights violations.

He urged the international community to immediately stop the violent conflict and requested the international community to stop the pain and destruction cycle for the common people.
