Yemen has been shining in the war between the rebels and the Saudi-left over the past decade. The country needs humanitarian assistance to 1.5 million people, which is more than half of the country’s population.
Most of the country, including the capital Sana, is ruled by the Houthi fighters, who are also known as the Ansar Allah party. The party has still arrested many employees of the United Nations, private organizations, civil society and diplomatic missions, many of which have been arrested for the past few years.
The UN chief strongly condemned the death of an employee of the World Food Program (WFP) a few months ago.
He said that the Huthi fighters have not yet given any information about this blasphemous tragedy, which should be done immediately, transparent and detailed investigations so that accountability can be determined.
The general secretary mentioned that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners should not be targeted, or they do not have to arrest or arrest them when they perform their duties for the good of the common citizens.
Many Yemeni employees have been impressed by the UN skills to support the needy people in the country by fighting the human crisis. Also, mediation efforts towards peace have also weakened.
Solidarity
The UN chief says that the festival of the EID da al -Azer will be celebrated this week, which is the time to show compassion.
In view of this, he has applied for the immediate release of the detainees from the Houthi fighters. All these families have to end the pain, who are waiting for their loved ones.
Some employees have been held hostage since 2021 and 2023, others were detained in June last year and January this year.
Addressing the staff, General Secretary Gutresh said, “You have not forgotten.” For your safe and immediate release, the UN will continue to try through all the necessary.
Accordingly, he thanked all aspects of international partners, non -government agencies and Yemeni people. He requested Member States to show solidarity to the detainees and efforts to release their release should be faster.
