The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recently apprehended three individuals in connection with the Kolkata rape and murder case. Among those arrested are Sanjay Roy, Sandeep Ghosh, and the Station House Officer (SHO). According to the FIR, Sanjay Roy is directly implicated in the rape and murder, while Sandeep Ghosh and the SHO are accused of delaying the FIR and tampering with evidence. In addition to these three, four more people have been arrested on corruption charges. Notably, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, faces both rape and murder charges as well as corruption allegations.
On Sunday, both Sandeep Ghosh and the SHO will be presented in court to clarify their roles in the case. The CBI has arrested Abhijit Mondal, the SHO of Talla Police Station, in relation to the rape and murder of a female doctor stationed at RG Kar Hospital. He will be presented in court tomorrow morning. Additionally, the court has granted permission for Sandeep Ghosh to be remanded in custody. He will also appear in court tomorrow.
This case involves the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The CBI has launched an investigation and has so far arrested two individuals. The investigation is ongoing. Prior to these arrests, Sanjay Roy had already been detained by the CBI. The specific roles of Ghosh and the SHO in the case are still under investigation, with allegations ranging from evidence tampering to negligence. They are not directly involved in the rape and murder.
The CBI conducted over 150 hours of questioning before arresting individuals on corruption charges. During Supreme Court proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Chief Justice’s bench that the crime scene had been altered. However, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the West Bengal government, disputed this claim.
The Supreme Court questioned the West Bengal government regarding unnecessary delays in filing the FIR and inconsistencies in the common diary maintained by Kolkata Police. The CBI has repeatedly interrogated Mondal and has scrutinized Kolkata Police’s handling of the investigation and potential connections between some officials and the primary accused, Sanjay Roy.
On Friday, Sanjay Roy refused to undergo a polygraph test. To date, the CBI has conducted polygraph tests on ten individuals. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also initiated a separate investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the medical college.
