In recent weeks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate end to violence and full protection of civilians in Myanmar, which is suffering a brutal civil war. He made the appeal against the backdrop of seven years since the forced displacement of Rohingyas and other communities from the country’s Rakhine state. UN human rights chief Volker Turk has also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Myanmar.
