Atishi and half the population

With Atishi becoming the Chief Minister, there is definitely a hope of a new wave of governance in the capital. People are also reminded of Sheila Dikshit’s government which lasted for a decade and a half before this. When the people of Delhi did not have to see the struggle and degradation in the behaviour of public policy. Atishi is educated in India and abroad, She is considered to be a simple and service-minded public servant.

In order to fight the mobocracy that we want to fight in society today, we will have to return to the contribution of half of our population. Half of the population means our women. In the bullet train speed of man’s development, only the natural tolerance of women can be considered more developed. Only half of the population can make the society that is becoming increasingly violent a non-violent Vishwaguru.

The political struggle between the Centre and the State in the country’s capital Delhi had become a long one. In the power struggle in Delhi that has been going on for more than a decade, the gentle, modest and tolerant Atishi has now become the third woman and the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi.

Even if it is due to the political upheaval imposed on the Aam Aadmi Party by the Central Government, the enthusiasm that has been generated among the common, educated class of the capital for Atishi becoming the Chief Minister is a good message for the society. Whether Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation is considered an honest attempt or a power plan for success, only the people of Delhi will tell when the time comes.

But with Atishi becoming the Chief Minister, there is definitely a hope of a new wind of governance in the capital. People are also reminded of Sheila Dikshit’s government which lasted for a decade and a half before this. When the people of Delhi did not have to see the struggle and degradation in the behaviour of public policy.

Aatishi is considered to be a well educated, simple and service-minded public servant. Both her parents were teachers. They had an inter-caste love marriage. And they were in favour of providing higher education to their daughters. Both were influenced by Marx and Lenin, hence they gave the surname Marlena to their daughter Aatishi. At the age when society was changing due to the influence of education and service, like other youths, Aatishi also developed a sense of power.

Inspired by the Anna movement, she became a member of the Aam Aadmi Party. The non-violent movement showed her the way to change society. She contested elections. There were wins and losses. But her simple, philanthropic nature gave her the good fortune of becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Narayan Desai has written in his memoir “Mere Gandhi” that Mahatma Gandhi had built all the social and political experiments around the natural nature of women. Gandhi’s strategy of involving women in non-violent struggle was based on this belief. This strategy of his proved to be an unprecedented factor in creating a wave of awareness in India.

Gandhi’s way of liberating the women of India was to make them equal partners with men in the struggle for freedom. Gandhi believed that by participating in the process of restoring the dignity of the country, women’s own dignity would naturally be restored as well.

Gandhiji had special expectations from women as an example of non-violent power. Hence, he said, “Women have always been superior to men in the courage of self-sacrifice. As I believe, men have always been ahead of women in heartless courage. I firmly believe that women can be better soldiers of non-violence than men.”

There was a responsibility in the ashram life that everyone was reluctant to accept. They had to keep a lot of small accounts of the ashram’s store room and deal with people of different temperaments. When this was brought to Gandhi’s attention, he found a solution. “If this is the case, then why not give all the responsibility to women. I am sure that they will handle this work very well, which is not being handled by men.” Then after the Dandi March, Gandhi put the big responsibility of non-violent non-cooperation on women, which they fulfilled very well.

Today, Kamala Harris is also contesting the US presidential election. If a woman becomes the head of the most powerful country, it will not be mere optimism to see which path the world will take. America’s stand on the ongoing wars in the world will also become clear. If the responsibility of giving importance to non-violence instead of violence in an atmosphere of hatred falls on half the population, then the arrogance of power will also end.

Being the Chief Minister of the capital will be Atishi’s litmus test. Because only half of the population will give hope that the battle against violent mobocracy should be fought with non-violent brotherhood. The wounds of hatred should be healed. An atmosphere of harmony should be created. And development should happen with prudence.
