CBI's petition on Bengal violence rejected

New Delhi. The Supreme Court has rejected the CBI’s plea to conduct the hearing of the violence that took place outside the state after the assembly elections in West Bengal and has also reprimanded the central agency. It is worth noting that the CBI is investigating the case of violence that took place during and after the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal. It had raised questions on the functioning of the courts and appealed to conduct its hearing outside.

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the CBI’s petition and also reprimanded it. The CBI had said in the petition that there is a hostile atmosphere in the courts of West Bengal. Witnesses are being intimidated. A bench of Justice Abhay S Oak and Justice Pankaj Mittal heard this on Friday in the Supreme Court. The court told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who appeared on behalf of the CBI, “You cannot question the entire judiciary in West Bengal. What is the basis for this? You are showing as if there is a hostile atmosphere in the entire West Bengal.”

The Supreme Court said- CBI officers may not like a judicial officer or a particular state, but do not say that the entire judiciary is not working. The district judge, civil judge and session judge of the state cannot come here and defend themselves on your allegations. After the strict attitude of the court, ASG Raju defended the allegations made in the petition. Raju told the bench- I do not intend to make allegations, this is a matter of loose drafting. After this, he withdrew the petition to transfer the case.
