SEBI itself has said that most investors have suffered losses in F&O. Therefore Rahul Gandhi has not told any new fact. But his demand is important that those whothe big players’ made extraordinary profits, Their names should be disclosed.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of losses suffered by small investors in the trading of Futures and Options (F&O) related to the stock market. In hints, he has expressed suspicion of some big ‘game’ in this business. Gandhi said- ‘Uncontrolled trading of F&O has increased 45 times in the last five years. In the last three years, 90 percent of small investors have suffered a loss of Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand crores in this. SEBI must reveal the names of those big players who are making huge profits at the expense of small investors.’ According to the available information, thousands of small investors have burnt their hands in this business. There seems to be abnormal profit on investment in F&O. Due to this, lakhs of small investors have been attracted towards it. But the experience is that the price rises here at the same speed, it suddenly falls with the same speed. The suspicion is that big investors – who invest crores of rupees, manipulate the price of F&O in an organized manner. Anyway, futures are a kind of gambling.
Some time back SEBI itself had said that most investors in F&O (undoubtedly they are small investors) have suffered losses in the past years. Therefore, Rahul Gandhi has not stated any new fact. But his demand is important that the names of the ‘big players’ who have earned extraordinary profits should be made public. It is possible that there may be some legal hurdles in this way. Many investors give details in their income tax returns about how much income they have earned from the stock market. But it is not clear whether legal information about someone’s personal income or wealth can be made public. However, since Rahul Gandhi has raised this issue, it will definitely have the effect that public awareness about F&O will increase. It is not surprising that ‘games’ take place in the stock markets. Such cases keep getting exposed from time to time. It is unfortunate that adequate steps have not been taken till date to stop this.
