Dwayne Bravo’s appointment as mentor to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) comes just four hours after he retired from all forms of cricket. Bravo had announced his retirement from cricket on Friday itself. Bravo holds the record for taking most wickets in T20 cricket, he has taken 631 wickets in 582 matches in this format. Bravo to retire from international cricket in 2021

Venky Mysore said, “It is very exciting to have DJ Bravo joining us. He has a deep desire to win whatever league he plays in. His extensive experience and knowledge will be of immense benefit to the franchise and all the players. We are also delighted that he will be joining all our other franchises across the world – CPL, MLC and ILT20.

Bravo retired from international cricket in 2021, but continued to play in franchise cricket and take up coaching roles in several other leagues, including the IPL. Recently, he worked as a coach with IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and was named as Afghanistan’s bowling consultant for the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.

Retirement from IPL in December 2022

During his career, Dwayne Bravo won the hearts of every fan with his brilliant performances. His ability to perform well under pressure, especially his slower ball and accurate death-over bowling, became his hallmark. He led Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to two consecutive Caribbean Premier League (CPL) titles in 2017 and 2018, and led St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to their first CPL title in 2021.

41-year-old Bravo played for Mumbai Indians in the first three seasons of IPL (2008-2010). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him in the auction in 2011, and he played an important role in making the team champion in 2011. After CSK was suspended in 2016, Bravo was included in their team by Gujarat Lions. After the comeback of CSK in 2018, he again became a part of the team and played for CSK till 2023. During this period, Chennai became champion three times.

Bravo announced his retirement from IPL in December 2022 and later became the bowling coach of CSK by replacing Lakshmipathy Balaji. Now he has been given a new responsibility as a mentor in Kolkata Knight Riders. In the IPL, Bravo took 183 wickets in 161 matches and also scored 1560 runs, which included five half-centuries. He became the first player in the world to win the Purple Cap twice in 2013 and 2015.
