Addressing the UN General Assembly on Friday, India’s foreign minister said that in today’s world communication has become difficult, consensus is even more difficult.
“This meeting is being held at a very difficult time, with the war in Ukraine now in its third year and the war in Gaza also having massive and dire consequences.”
Meanwhile, in the global South, development plans have been derailed and the Sustainable Development Goals are falling behind.
“While discriminatory trade practices threaten jobs, technological advances have long been a source of hope, but they are now equally a source of concern,” he said.
“Climate change events are now occurring more intensively and more frequently. “Food security and health security are also huge concerns.”
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that during the establishment of the United Nations, the focus was on ensuring world peace, which is a prerequisite for global prosperity. “Today we see both peace and prosperity equally threatened.”
“And this is happening because trust is broken and processes are broken. “Countries have exploited the international system far more than they have contributed, thereby weakening it.”
He said, this situation is visible in every challenge and every crisis today. “It has therefore become imperative to reform multilateralism.”
