Imphal. Violence has erupted simultaneously in many parts of Manipur. Four people have died in the violence that took place at two different places. Firing took place between two sides of the Naga community in Ukhrul district of the state on Wednesday. Three people died in this, while more than 10 are injured. On the other hand, in another incident, the town commander of a banned organization was shot dead in violence-hit Churachandpur. On the other hand, the movement against the kidnapping of two Meitei youth has also intensified. It is noteworthy that in the violence that has been going on in Manipur for almost 16 months, more than two hundred people have been killed and thousands of people have been displaced.
However, regarding the Ukhrul incident, the police have imposed prohibitory orders in the area under Section 163 of the Indian Justice Code. People are prohibited from leaving their homes till further orders. Police said that both the parties belong to the Naga community, but are from two different villages named Hunfun and Hangpung. Both sides lay claim to the same land. Violence broke out between the two parties over the cleaning of the disputed land as part of the cleanliness drive. Assam Rifles has been deployed in the area.
The second incident is from Churachandpur, where the town commander of a banned militant organization was shot dead by unknown people near Leeshang village on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Sekhohao Haokip, a resident of Kaprang village in the district. Police said that the deceased was a member of the United Kuki National Army.
Meanwhile, the case of kidnapping of two youths of Meiti community is also gaining momentum. The Joint Action Committee, JAC, had called for a 48-hour bandh to protest against the kidnapping of two youths by militants in Thoubal district. Due to this, normal life was affected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Police said that the militants had kidnapped two local youths on September 27. Regarding this, JAC had called for a bandh from 3 am on October 1. The JAC had threatened protests, demonstrations and a complete bandh in the district if the youth were not released by the night of 30 October.
Earlier on Monday, protests and demonstrations also took place at Thoubal Fair Ground. The protesters also blocked the National Highway. It is noteworthy that the Kuki militants had taken three youths captive, one of them has been released. The protesters demand that the remaining two should also be released. The families of the victims also participated in the demonstration. Representatives of JAC had also met Chief Minister N Biren Singh and given information about the protest.
