Overdependence on Hooda also has disadvantages

The social equation of Congress party also got spoiled because of Bhupendra Singh Hooda. Congress had become very dependent on him. From ticket distribution to campaigning, Bhupendra Singh Hooda and his son Deependra Hooda were seen everywhere. Congress had not declared him as the Chief Ministerial candidate but the message among the voters of Haryana was that if Congress government is formed, Hooda will be the Chief Minister. Due to this, there was enthusiasm among Jat voters but internal consolidation of non-Jat votes had also started. The message of the wrestlers’ demonstration and their roaming around the entire state was that Congress is doing everything according to Jat politics.

Meanwhile, news came that Congress has given 72 out of 90 seats in the state on the behest of Hooda. There were about two dozen Jat candidates in this. Congress fielded one and a half times as many Jats as BJP. Due to this, BJP was successful in creating division between Jat and non-Jat. If the Dalit vote had gone completely with the Congress, it would have benefited. But first Kumari Selja’s displeasure and then Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reminder of the Gohana and Mirchpur incidents during the entire election proved costly for the Congress. There were gruesome incidents of Dalit atrocities at two places during Hooda’s rule. So

Even the Dalits did not completely join the Congress. On the other hand, Gurjar, Brahmin and other votes joined with the backward people in non-Jat mobilization. Due to this, BJP’s vote also increased. BJP, which was a party with 33 percent votes in 2014 and 36 percent votes in 2019, reached 40 percent. The vote of Congress also increased because due to dependence on Hooda, Jats completely joined Congress leaving INLD and JJP, due to which Congress also increased from 28 percent to 40 percent but could not get enough votes to win.
