Haryana’s victory is like a lifeline for the Bharatiya Janata Party. That’s why the entire party is in a celebratory mood, whereas the party has not been able to win the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. It is a different matter that BJP’s seats have increased there also. Last time it had won 25 seats and this time it has won 29 seats. It has gained four seats. It is noteworthy that after the delimitation in the state, six seats were increased in the state, due to which the number of seats in Jammu region increased from 37 to 43. BJP has benefited from this. Still, National Conference and Congress have got the majority to form the government there. However, like Haryana, Congress has suffered a major setback in Kashmir too. It has been able to win only six seats, whereas Congress leaders claimed to win at least 15 seats.
But BJP is not very worried about this. The reason for this is that somehow BJP government has to remain there. Keep in mind that after the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, the Central Government has given most of the powers of governance there in the hands of the Lieutenant Governor. Jammu and Kashmir is not a full state yet. It is a semi-state like Delhi, where the Lieutenant Governor has all the powers. The right to transfer and posting officers also rests with the Lieutenant Governor. Therefore, BJP is not very disappointed there. Full statehood is not going to be restored there yet. BJP’s efforts will continue after the formation of the government by National Conference and Congress. Keeping power in her hands, she will at some point try to form a government through sabotage.
