There is no end to the hellish situation in northern Gaza, UNRWA chief rages

The warning by UN Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini came after the Israeli army issued a new evacuation order. But many refuse to accept it, because according to them, no place in Gaza is safe.

Israel’s heavy bombardment and ground military operations in the Gaza Strip continue. The evacuation order was issued on Tuesday after the Israeli military laid siege to the Jabalia refugee camp last weekend.

Airstrikes were also reported in Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun areas, northeast of Gaza, where roads are closed.

UNRWA chief Filipe Lazzarini expressed concern on Wednesday that life-saving aid operations are being forced to stop because of a fierce military operation in the country’s north.

He said seven people were being evacuated from the schools that the UN agency had converted into temporary shelters. Only two of the eight water wells in Jabalia camp are to be used. As many as 400,000 people are still believed to be in northern Gaza.

According to the UNRWA chief, children are the first and foremost victims, the hunger crisis is widening and deepening and basic supplies are lacking.

Gaza’s health ministry says at least 45 people have died and 130 have been injured in the past 24 hours.

On October 7, 2023, a terrorist attack in Israel led by Hamas killed 1,250 people and took more than 250 hostages. Since then, 42,000 Palestinians have lost their lives and more than 97,000 have been injured in Israeli military operations.

Disaster in Lebanon

On the other hand, the United Nations humanitarian office in Lebanon said that Israel continues to bombard and now new areas have also been affected. At the same time, the armed organization Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on Israel.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that in just one day, October 6, more than 30 airstrikes took place on the outskirts of Beirut. Terrified people have ordered the evacuation of densely populated areas, including the Shatila Palestinian refugee camp.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said that since October 8, 2023, more than 2,000 people have died and more than 9,000 have been injured. Over the past two weeks, Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have increased the number of casualties.

After the war in the Gaza Strip began, Hezbollah launched rocket attacks into northern Israel, which continue to this day.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), 25 percent of Lebanon is affected by Israeli military evacuation orders. Evacuation orders are being issued daily and people from more than 100 villages and towns have been forced to leave their homes.

According to the UN agency, more than 12 lakh people are internally displaced, including more than 3.5 lakh children. One lakh 80 thousand people have taken shelter in 978 shelters, of which 775 are overcrowded.
