Omar was elected leader, will present claim today

Srinagar. After the results of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has been elected the leader of the legislative party. The newly elected MLAs of the National Conference met on Thursday, 10 October, in which the party’s vice president Omar Abdullah was elected as the leader. A delegation of three leaders of the opposition alliance ‘India’ led by Omar Abdullah will meet Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday and stake claim to form the government.

It is being told that after Vijayadashami, the swearing in ceremony is expected to take place on 13th or 14th October. It is also being said that there will be no Deputy Chief Minister in the state government. Congress, which contested the elections in alliance with the National Conference, may get the post of Deputy Speaker. It is being told that from the Congress side, either MLA from Duru seat Ghulam Ahmed Mir or State President and Central Shalteng MLA Tariq Hamid Karra can get the post of cabinet minister.

In the first assembly elections held after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress and National Conference alliance won 49 seats. National Conference, which was part of the alliance, got maximum 42 seats, Congress got six and CPM got one seat. The majority figure is 46. However, after the nomination of five members, the majority figure will increase to 48. However, this time four out of the seven independent MLAs who won the elections announced their support to the National Conference on Thursday.

The four independent MLAs who supported the National Conference include Pyare Lal Sharma from Inderwal, Satish Sharma from Chhamb, Mohammad Akram from Surankot and Dr. Rameshwar Singh from Bani seat. In support of these MLAs, Omar Abdullah said- Now our number has increased to 46. It is noteworthy that in the results of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections held on October 8, BJP won 29 seats. The party has gained 4 seats compared to the last elections. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP has won three seats. In the last elections his party had got 28 seats.
