Papankusha Ekadashi 2024: In Hindu religion, the fast of Papankusha Ekadashi is considered very important. This fast is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. According to religious belief, by observing fast on this day and worshiping Lord Vishnu, all sins are destroyed and salvation is attained.

Observing this fast brings happiness and prosperity in life and increases lifespan. Besides, charity also has special significance on this day. It is believed that donation made on the day of Papankusha Ekadashi not only eradicates the sins of the person but also gives auspicious results in the next births and paves the way to salvation. This fast is considered the best path for spiritual purification and attaining God’s blessings.

Papankusha Ekadashi auspicious time

According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start at 9.08 am on Sunday, October 13 and will end at 6.41 am on Monday, October 14. (Papankusha Ekadashi 2024)

This year, Ekadashi Tithi will be celebrated on 13th October, while Dwadashi Tithi will be celebrated on 14th October. Based on Udaya Tithi, the fast of Papankusha Ekadashi will be observed on 13th October, and the Parana (end of the fast) of the fast will be observed on 14th October. Devotees observing fast on this day will end their fast at the time of Parana by worshiping Lord Vishnu.

Papankusha Ekadashi fasting method

On the day of Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take bath and take a pledge to fast.
Light a lamp and offer incense in front of the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.
Chant the mantras of Lord Vishnu and offer offerings.
At the end of the puja, listen to the story of Papankusha Ekadashi.
Pray to God for peace of mind and salvation.
Recitation of Vishnu Sahastranam at night
Remain fasting the whole day. Can consume only fruits and water.
Next day, on Dwadashi Tithi, break the fast by giving Dakshina to a Brahmin.

What not to do on the day of Ekadashi fast

Water should not be offered to Tulsi on this day.
One should not do excessive physical labour.
Food should not be consumed during the fast.
Negative thoughts should not come in the mind.
One should not lie nor get angry.
One should not insult anyone.
