Omar Abdullah becomes the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir has got a new government today i.e. on Wednesday. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took oath as Chief Minister in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Apart from Omar Abdullah, Surendra Chaudhary has taken oath as Deputy CM. Apart from this, Sakina Ittu and Javed Rana also took oath as ministers. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Supriya Sule, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and many leaders of the Indian alliance attended the swearing-in ceremony. It is noteworthy that assembly elections have been held in the Union Territory after 10 years. The Congress party has decided to support Omar Abdullah’s government from outside. Congress will not join the new government.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra said that Congress is currently not joining the ministry in the Jammu and Kashmir government. Congress has strongly demanded from the Center to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, apart from this the Prime Minister has also promised this several times in public meetings. But statehood has not been restored to Jammu and Kashmir. We are unhappy so we are not joining the ministry at the moment. The Congress and National Conference alliance won the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after almost 10 years. In the elections held on 90 seats in the state, the National Conference had won 42 seats and the Congress Party had won 6 seats.
