Dale Steyn left Sunrisers Hyderabad before IPL 2025

New Delhi. Former South African cricket team fast bowler Dale Steyn has announced that he will not return as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of IPL. However, he will remain with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. Dale Steyn took over the role ahead of the 2022 season. However, due to personal reasons he was not a part of the squad in the 2024 season. Due to this, former New Zealand fast bowler James Franklin took his place. He has given this information through social media. Steyn said on Twitter: “Many thanks to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the few years he spent as bowling coach in the IPL. Unfortunately I will not be available for IPL in 2025. However, I will continue to work for Sunrisers Eastern Cape here in South Africa. Our endeavor will be to win the trophy for the third consecutive time.

SRH have appointed former New Zealand cricketer James Franklin as their bowling coach in Steyn’s absence to work with head coach Daniel Vettori in IPL 2024, where he will be under Australia Test captain Pat Cummins. They finished as runners-up to eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Apart from playing 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20 matches for South Africa, Steyn also played for Deccan Chargers (this team is no longer part of the tournament), RCB, Sunrisers and Gujarat Lions (this team is no longer part of the tournament) as a player. The team is no longer part of the tournament) and has taken 97 wickets in total. Serving as SRH’s bowling coach in the IPL was also his first cricket coaching stint, Steyn is credited with playing a key role in honing the bowling of fast bowler Umran Malik.
