Kampala. 49 new cases of mpox have been reported in Uganda, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 145. Uganda’s capital Kampala recorded 27 new cases of the disease, the highest number in the East African country in the past week, the country’s health ministry said. The ministry has confirmed that no deaths have been recorded so far in the 19 affected districts of the country. In Uganda, the World Health Organization said in a statement in Kampala that it was supporting the country in efforts to contain the outbreak.
WHO is working closely with the Ministry of Health and partners in affected areas with the support of the Contingency Fund for Emergencies, WHO said in a statement. In August, the World Health Organization declared Mpox a public health emergency of international concern, citing the possibility of its global spread. The Ugandan Ministry of Health, in collaboration with partners, has intensified containment measures to stop the spread of the disease, including surveillance, case management and public awareness campaigns, as well as organizing health meetings.
