Mahakumbh fair is organized once every 12 years. But have you ever wondered why there is this 12 year difference? It is important to understand the mythology and religious significance behind it.
According to ancient beliefs, this fair is held when the position of the planets is such that they hold special significance. Apart from this, bathing in Mahakumbh purifies the soul and paves the way to attain salvation. Let us know in detail about this mythological story and the religious reasons behind it.

When and why will Mahakumbh start?
According to the calendar, Mahakumbh starts with the Paush Purnima bath and the Kumbh festival ends with the last bath on the day of Mahashivratri. In the year 2025, the Kumbh Mela program will run from 13 January to 26 February.
According to mythology, Mahakumbh is associated with the churning of the ocean. It is said that when the ocean was being churned between gods and demons, many gems came out of it. Amrit was the most precious gem among all the gems. A war broke out between the gods and demons over nectar. In such a situation, Lord Vishnu gave his vehicle to Garuda to save the nectar from the demons. When Garuda was carrying the nectar, some drops of the nectar fell at four places on earth i.e. Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. It is believed that wherever the drops of nectar had fallen, the Kumbh Mela is organized at an interval of 12 years.
Why is Kumbh celebrated only every 12 years?
According to mythology, during the Samudra Manthan there was a 12-day battle between the demons and the gods for the nectar. According to Vedic scriptures, 12 days of gods are equal to 12 years for humans. Therefore Kumbh Mela is organized every 12 years.
The second reason is believed to be the movement of the planet Jupiter. It is believed that when Guru Jupiter is in Taurus and Sun God comes in Capricorn, then Kumbh Mela is organized in Prayagraj. When the planet Jupiter is in Aquarius and during that time Sun God comes in Aries, then Kumbh Mela is organized in Haridwar.
According to astrologers, when Sun and Jupiter Jupiter are in Leo, the Maha Kumbh Mela is organized in Nashik and when Dev Guru Jupiter is in Leo and the king of planets, Sun, is in Aries, then the Kumbh Mela is organized in Ujjain. Seems like
