It seems that Congress has neither learned anything from the success of the ‘India’ block in the Lok Sabha elections nor from its defeat in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. Despite what Rahul Gandhi said, Congress leaders are doing politics only by keeping their interests ahead. In both Maharashtra and Jharkhand, it is being seen that the state leaders of the party, along with the in-charges, decided the candidates of their choice on different seats. Needless to say, on what basis the state leaders and in-charges of Congress decide the candidates. So, they decided on candidates and started fighting for those seats with regional allies.
This is the real reason for the problem in seat distribution. Regarding many seats in Maharashtra, Congress leaders know that Uddhav Thackeray or Sharad Pawar is claiming that seat and they have good candidates. But some Congress leader made a promise to some candidate on that seat. After this he tries his best to get the seat. Similarly, this has happened on many seats in Jharkhand. Despite not being a good candidate, Congress put pressure on that seat, so there was some other non-political reason behind it. After this comes the factionalism of Congress. On the same seat, different groups of Congress made promises to different contenders. It was also seen that in order to snatch the seat of the sitting Congress MLA, one camp included another leader from outside in the party.
Here the difference between Congress and BJP is clearly visible. No state leader of BJP can fool the central leadership in this way. The central leadership has its own survey team and a system to take feedback from the grassroots level. It is possible that there may be such a system in Congress too but there is no such information that Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge sit in the meetings with their own list as compared to the list that comes from the state. This happens in BJP. Amit Shah has his own list and the Organization General Secretary has his own list. It is matched with the list received from the state. This does not give the state leaders a chance to act arbitrarily. This also makes it easier to coordinate with allies because the central leadership knows on which seats it does not have a strong candidate. In Congress, everyone is roaming around with the biodata of weak candidates for their own selfish reasons. Due to such selfishness of the state leaders, every time there is a problem in seat distribution. The General Secretary in-charge also works according to the satraps of the state instead of showing loyalty to the central leadership.
