Vienna. Alex De Minaur defeated Jakub Mencic 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Vienna Open. With this win, his hopes of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals still remain intact. The 25-year-old, ranked ninth in the ATP Live Race to Turin, worked hard to win in two hours and 34 minutes. Going into the opening set tie-break, Mencic was the first to change gears and try his best to dominate. He used aggressive ground strokes and forced the Australian player to make mistakes, which helped him win the first set 7-6(2). De Minaur responded by securing a crucial break in the sixth game of the second set and leveled the match by winning the set 6–3.
The Australian broke Mencic again in the fifth game of the third set and maintained control for the rest of the match. Despite the loss, Mencic is on track to qualify for the Next Gen ATP Finals in December. The 19-year-old player is ranked third in the ATP Live Race to Jeddah.
