Srinagar. Indian security forces got a big success on Saturday. Two unidentified terrorists were killed during an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, firing is going on between the terrorists hiding and the security forces in Srinagar city. Officials said, ‘Two unidentified terrorists were killed in Larnu forest area of Shangas in Anantnag district on Saturday. The exact identity of the killed terrorists will be known after the operation in the area is over. Meanwhile, the encounter between terrorists hiding and security forces continued in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar city with intermittent firing taking place in the area.
Officials said that after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists, security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Khanyar area of Srinagar city. Officials said, ‘As soon as the security forces reached near the hiding terrorists, they started firing on the security forces. The encounter started in the heart of the old city of Srinagar city on Saturday. For the first time in the last 10 years, encounter has started in the old city area of Srinagar. This area was once a stronghold of separatists and terrorists used to roam freely in this area. With the passage of time, security forces succeeded in eliminating terrorism from these areas.
It was believed that terrorism had ended from Srinagar city in general and the lower areas of the city in particular. But, this perception seems to be broken due to the firing that took place in Khanyar area of Srinagar on Saturday. On Friday, terrorists shot and injured two laborers, Sanjay and Usman, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, in Mazhama village of Magam area of Budgam district. Both were immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared their condition stable.
Earlier last month, terrorists had killed a group of seven unarmed workers in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district. These workers were building a tunnel from Gagangir to Sonamarg tourist spot to make Srinagar-Sonmarg an all-weather road. Those killed in the Gagangir attack included six non-local laborers and a local doctor from Budgam district. Later, terrorists killed three army personnel and two porters in Botapathri area of Gulmarg.
