no seriousness, no honesty

People are willing to risk their own health, So who can save that society? Doctors are tired of warning that pollution can be fatal. But lack of awareness and accountability remains the same.

On the occasion of Chhath, the squabble between Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party over the pollution of Yamuna in Delhi has become so common now that people have started getting bored of it. The issue is that when this is a permanent problem, then why is it not paid attention to by these two parties after Chhath, who have governments at the Center and (Union Territory)? Then in normal times even the civil society is not concerned about it. Same is the situation with the increasing air pollution in Delhi and surrounding areas this season. Then the same thing happened. Another Diwali came and again Delhi NCR was covered with a blanket of smog. The ban on firecrackers remained only on paper. As many firecrackers were sold in the shops as people demanded, people bought and burnt them to their heart’s content.

Now, if people are willing to put their own health at stake, then who can save that society? Doctors are tired of warning that pollution not only causes a minor cough, but can also prove fatal. But lack of awareness and accountability remains the same in India. Now an international aspect is also added to this sequence. Pakistan is also facing the ill effects of air pollution. Lahore city has been especially badly affected. It is no less interesting that the provincial Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has blamed India for the deteriorating air quality in Lahore.

He says that the air coming from India brings pollution with it, due to which the air of Lahore is getting spoiled. Whereas reports prepared in Pakistan itself state that the major causes of poor air quality include smoke emanating from industries and vehicles. Apart from this, farming methods, biofuels and burning of waste and dust are other aspects. But the culture of non-serious and dishonest attitude towards serious problems is no less in Pakistan too. However, nothing will be achieved from such viewpoints, every conscious person must keep this in mind.
