India may get to host the Olympics. India has formally laid claim to it. But India’s chances of getting hosting are looking higher because India is in a better position than other countries among the countries which are making claims in 2036. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey have staked claim to host the 2036 Olympics. If there is a competition with these countries then India will not face any problem in getting hosting. Although Qatar has strengthened its claim by successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup, Saudi Arabia is considered a strong contender due to geopolitical conditions.
It is noteworthy that the 2028 Olympics will be held in the American city of Los Angeles and the 2032 Olympics will be held in Brisbane, Australia. Now the city is to be decided for 2036. Usually, the hosting of Olympics goes to the countries which are at the top in the medal table. Only one of the top 10 countries has been hosting. But this time India finished 71st in the Paris Olympics with one silver and five bronze medals. The rest of the contending countries are also very low in the medal table. However, if India gets the hosting rights, the host city will be Ahmedabad in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. Generally Gujarat has not had any special connection with sports. Only a very few Gujarati players would have ever been included in the Indian Olympic contingent. But he will get hosting.
