15 people killed in massive forest fire in Peru

Lima. At least 15 people have died due to forest fires in different parts of Peru. “So far we have reported 15 deaths, six people hospitalized and 128 people discharged from the hospital. As the Ministry of Health, we will always adopt an optimistic attitude,” the official told reporters. Health Minister Cesar Vasquez assured on Monday that the authorities will remain vigilant and continue to provide medical help to people in the fire-affected areas.

The fires have affected not only the South American nation but the entire region. Last week, the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDEC) said that 222 forest fires were recorded in 23 of the country’s 25 regions this year, of which 51 are active. Peruvian President Dina Boluarte left for the Amazon region on Monday. She is going to the Amazon region to monitor the areas affected by the fires, coordinate actions with local authorities and other institutions.
