Bomb’s At least 177 people have died in floods since the start of the rainy season in Mali. People are facing a lot of problems due to rain and floods. According to the report released by Mali’s Inter Ministerial Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management on Friday, 656 incidents of flooding have been recorded in the country, in which 148 people were injured and 37,999 houses collapsed. 264,646 people from 47,955 families have been affected by this flood. Mali’s Ministry of Education said that 128 public schools are being used as shelters for flood victims. 167 schools are submerged in water and buildings of 256 schools have collapsed. Heavy rains continue across the country, causing rivers and their tributaries to swell.
Authorities have repeatedly urged residents to evacuate flood-prone areas and avoid flooded roads by foot, bike or car. Also, citizens have been advised to stay away from swollen rivers and stay indoors during heavy rains. The Mali Government declared a state of national disaster on August 23, due to which the start of the new school session was postponed from October 1 to November 4.
