2020 situation restored on LAC

New Delhi. After the agreement between India and China, restoration of the situation before April 2020 on the Line of Actual Control i.e. LAC has started. Two checkpoints have been vacated by Tuesday, October 29, as previously scheduled. Informed sources say that the work of withdrawal of troops in Depsang and Demchok has been completed and patrolling by the troops of both the countries can start before the last day of this month i.e. 31st October. Apart from this, both the countries will continue to talk about the withdrawal of troops in some other areas.

It is noteworthy that on October 21, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had informed about the agreement between India and China in Eastern Ladakh. He had told that both the countries have agreed to withdraw the troops and restore the situation before April 2020. The next day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the Russian city of Kazan to attend the BRICS summit meeting, where after five years he held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. There was discussion on restoring trust in this talk.

However, after the Foreign Secretary gave information about the agreement, the Defense Ministry had said in a statement that India and China will complete the process of troop withdrawal on LAC by 28 to 29 October. After that the patrolling of soldiers will start. It is noteworthy that the military withdrawal agreement has been made for Depsang plains and Demchok. Both countries have agreed to continue talks elsewhere.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that withdrawal from the two friction points on the Ladakh border is the first step and reducing tension is the next step. He said it will take time to build trust and will between the two countries. Jaishankar said the situation on the border has been very disturbing and has had a very negative impact on relations between the two countries. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had also said the same thing. He had said that the first need is to restore trust.

However, a statement from the Defense Ministry regarding the agreement had said that as a major step to improve diplomatic relations between the two countries, India and China will complete the process of disengagement along the LAC from October 28 to 29. The statement of the Defense Ministry had said – When the soldiers of both the sides will retreat and remove the temporary structures, then patrolling will start in some areas of LAC. This is the first successful resolution of the dispute between the two armies after the violent clash in Galwan Valley in 2020.
