An advice to Congress

A non-serious view on a serious question is inappropriate. This will certainly raise questions on the credibility of the election system. Broader questions related to free and fair elections will also be harmed. It would be better if the party pays attention to the shortcomings of its strategy and organization in Haryana.

Congress spokespersons in the capital have rejected the Haryana election results. After BJP’s victory, Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera said that it was a victory achieved through manipulation. But in Haryana, two senior party leaders – Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja have accepted the defeat of Congress. Hooda has said he is accepting it “in protest”, while Shailaja has put the entire blame for the defeat on the state unit. On the other hand, prominent Congress leader of Karnataka DK Shivakumar has also “accepted the mandate of Haryana”.

Therefore, confusion has arisen as to what is the real opinion of the party on the Haryana election results? It is undeniable that elections in India may be free, but they are not fair. Money, publicity machinery, and the complete inclination of decision-making institutions like the Election Commission towards one party have not allowed a level playing field. After the Lok Sabha elections, an NGO named Vote for Democracy, in its study report, claimed that out of 240 seats where BJP won, the difference in 79 seats was due to the votes which were inflated by the Election Commission after the day of voting. But the Congress Party has raised such questions only occasionally. He has never raised these issues with full vigor, nor has he ever launched a coherent and sustained public campaign regarding them.

Still it does not seem that there has been any serious discussion on this issue within the party or it has any intention of taking it to the public. A non-serious view on a serious question is inappropriate. This will not only raise questions on the credibility of the election system but will also harm broader issues related to free and fair elections. On the contrary, it would be better if the party considers the shortcomings of its strategy and organization in Haryana. Instead of doing politics on social media, it would be better to focus on grassroots politics. Instead of believing in the perception created by social media influencers, the right approach would be to create our own system of feedback from the ground.
