New Delhi. The National Conference and Congress alliance has got a big victory in the assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years. The anti-BJP alliance ‘India’ has won 49 seats. The National Conference, which is leading the alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, has got the maximum of 42 seats. He contested elections on 51 seats. Congress, which contested elections on 31 seats, has got only six seats. CPM has managed to save one of its traditional seats. According to the 90 assembly seats of the state, the majority figure is 46, but after nominating five members the figure will become 48.
However, in the elections held after the removal of Article 370 and abolition of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, although BJP was not successful in forming the government, its seats have also increased. BJP has won 29 seats this time compared to 25 seats last time. The party has gained four seats compared to the last elections. However, Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina lost from Nowshera seat. He has sent his resignation to the party high command. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP has won three seats. In the last elections the party had got 28 seats.
Mehbooba’s daughter Iltija Mufti, who was contesting elections for the first time, lost from Srigufwara Bijbehara seat by more than nine thousand votes. Aam Aadmi Party has registered victory for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. From Doda seat, its candidate Mehraj Malik defeated BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana. People’s Conference won one seat, while independents won seven seats. Aijaz Ahmed Guru, brother of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, got only 129 votes from Sopore seat.
After the results, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said- Omar Abdullah will be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He can take oath on 11 or 12 October. Omar Abdullah contested two seats, Budgam and Ganderbal, and defeated the PDP candidate on both. Voting was held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir on 18th and 25th September and 1st October. This time 63.88 percent voting took place. In the elections held 10 years ago in 2014, there was 65 percent voting.
Of the 90 seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, 43 are in Jammu and 47 in Kashmir. BJP contested all 43 seats in Jammu region and won 29 seats. Whereas BJP had fielded 19 candidates in 47 seats of Kashmir region. BJP’s account could not be opened there. Out of 42 seats of National Conference, 35 seats have been won from Kashmir region. Whereas Congress won all its six seats from Kashmir division only. In 2014, Congress had got 12 seats.
