By-elections will also be held in two phases

New Delhi. Along with the announcement of Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections, the Election Commission has also announced the dates of by-elections for 48 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats of 14 states. These by-elections will also be held in two phases. In the first phase, voting will be held on 13 November for 47 assembly seats in 13 states along with Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Whereas, in the second phase, voting will be held on Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra and Kedarnath Assembly seat of Uttarakhand on November 20. All results will come on November 23.

Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of nine assembly seats in the by-elections. There will be no by-election on Milkipur seat of Uttar Pradesh. The reason for this is that SP candidate Awadhesh Prasad had won the 2022 assembly elections but BJP candidate Baba Gorakhnath had alleged irregularities in his election affidavit. Regarding this, he had also filed a petition in Allahabad High Court demanding cancellation of Awadhesh Prasad’s election. No decision has been taken yet in the matter, hence by-election has not been announced in Milkipur.

Apart from Uttar Pradesh, seven from Rajasthan, six from West Bengal, five from Assam, four each from Bihar and Punjab, three from Karnataka, two each from Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Sikkim, one each from Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya and Chhattisgarh. There will be an assembly seat by-election. Everyone’s eyes will be on Wayanad seat of Kerala, from where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra can contest the elections.
