Challenge of choosing opposition leader in Haryana

A big challenge has come before the Congress party after the results of Haryana. If Congress had won, it was certain who would become the Chief Minister. Then there was no problem. It was certain that Bhupendra Singh Hooda would become CM. But it is a very difficult task to decide who will be the leader of the opposition after the defeat. The reason for this is that ever since Congress lost the elections, preparations have been going on to sideline Bhupendra Singh Hooda. Hooda may also be getting ready for this in his mind but he will try to make one of his proxies the leader of the legislative party. In such a situation, the story of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh can be repeated. In these three states, the Chief Minister or the contenders for the post of Chief Minister were not made the Leader of Opposition.

In Haryana, Tikaram Julie was made the leader of opposition in place of Ashok Gehlot. Gehlot wanted Mahendrajit Malviya or Shanti Dhariwal to become the leader of opposition but this did not happen and for the first time Tikaram Julie of Dalit community was made the leader. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, Umang Singhar was made the leader of opposition in place of Kamal Nath and in Chhattisgarh, Charandas Mahant was made the leader of opposition in place of Bhupesh Baghel. Similarly, in Haryana, a new leader of the legislative party will be elected in place of Bhupendra Singh Hooda. The problem is that apart from Hooda, all the big leaders of the party are either MPs or did not contest the assembly elections. Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala are Rajya Sabha MPs while Deepender Hooda is a Lok Sabha MP. Captain Ajay Yadav no longer contests elections and Kiran Chaudhary has left the party. So, Congress will have to put forward a new face. There is also a question as to which community that face will belong to. The Dalit state president in the state is Chaudhary Udaybhan, who lost the election. Congress has to create a balance between Dalits and Jats. So, if the Jat leader is the opposition then Dalit will remain the state president and if the Dalit leader is the opposition then Udaybhan will be removed and made the Jat state president.
