Congress election committee meeting postponed

New Delhi. On one hand, Bharatiya Janata Party has announced candidates for almost all its quota seats in Jharkhand and 99 seats in Maharashtra, but Congress has not been able to release any list yet. The Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting of the Congress was scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 20, which has been cancelled. In this, the list of candidates for the assembly elections was to be finalized and the first list was to be released.

It has been told by Congress that now this meeting will be held on Monday, October 21 at 5 pm. Only after that the Congress candidates will be declared. A day earlier, on October 19, the meeting had lasted for six hours at Trident Hotel in Mumbai and ended late at night. Earlier on October 16, a meeting of the sorting committee for Maharashtra elections was held in Delhi. After this, on October 17, NCP founder Sharad Pawar had said that out of 288 assembly seats in Mahavikas Aghadi, a consensus has been reached on two hundred seats.

All is not well in Mahavikas Aghadi regarding seat distribution. There was a war of words going on between Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Congress leaders, which was calmed down after Uddhav Thackeray’s intervention. Sanjay Raut had demanded to exclude State Congress President Nana Patole from the seat distribution. They are demanding more seats for Congress in Vidarbha, where Uddhav Thackeray’s party is trying to fight on more seats.

On the other hand, Samajwadi Party, an important ally of the opposition alliance, has sought 12 seats from Mahavikas Aghadi in Maharashtra. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on October 19 announced candidates for five seats including Dhule Assembly City seat. After this, while talking to the media, he said- We have asked for 12 seats from MVA. The details of the seats have also been sent to them. SP has declared the names of Muslim candidates for five seats.
