The situation of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has become like that of a snake and a mole. It is neither able to swallow nor spit it out. Recently, Hindu groups held a big protest in the capital Shimla. This protest was against the construction of an alleged illegal mosque in Shimla. Now the Waqf Board has claimed that the land of the mosque belongs to it. That means it is not illegal. But the protest is not stopping. Remember, the Muslim population in Himachal Pradesh was less than one percent. But in the recent past, the population has increased due to outsiders and only then has the construction of mosques started. This has angered the Hindus. They are opposing Muslims and especially outside Muslims. In Uttarakhand, which has a similar population structure, boards have been put up everywhere, which declare a ban on Muslims entering the state.
However, Himachal Pradesh government minister Aniruddh Singh supported the Hindus’ protest in the assembly last week and talked about stopping the entry of outsiders. BJP MLAs inside the assembly applauded this. But Muslim leaders have started saying that the language of Congress and BJP has become the same. In such a situation, party leaders are facing a lot of difficulty in deciding their stand. Both Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Vikramaditya Singh have given a very balanced statement and said that work will be done according to the law. But the problem is that if the mosque is constructed then Hindus will get angry and if it is not constructed then the wrong message will go to Muslims across the country.
