Mumbai. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi reached Kolhapur in Maharashtra on Saturday. Maharashtra Congress leaders gave him a warm welcome when he reached Kolhapur. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will unveil the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Bhagwa Chowk in Bawada town. Let us tell you that last month itself, the controversy had started after the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s statue in Maharashtra and the opposition parties had targeted the BJP led NDA government. Along with unveiling the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Rahul Gandhi will also pay homage at the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Samadhi. After this, Rahul Gandhi will also address the Constitution Honor Conference at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Pavilion. This visit of Rahul Gandhi is considered important before the assembly elections to be held in Maharashtra.

Rahul Gandhi will start campaigning for Maharashtra elections from Kolhapur, the land of Shahuji Maharaj who gave reservation to backward castes. Kolhapur is identified as the district that gives maximum strength to Congress in Maharashtra. At present there are four Congress MPs, two MLCs and 13 MPs. At present, the dates for the Assembly elections have not been announced by the Election Commission. But, all the political parties have intensified their preparations. There is a possibility that Congress may contest elections on 100-110 seats in Maharashtra.
