Bharatiya Janata Party could not topple the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh. His Operation Lotus failed but with his continuous efforts he has created such a narrative in which Congress has got entangled. She is trying to save herself in Himachal Pradesh but it may cause harm to her in the entire country. Then it is being told that the top leaders of Congress are worried about the developments in Himachal Pradesh. Right now Sonia Gandhi’s entire family was in Himachal. Sonia Gandhi was celebrating her holiday at Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s house and Rahul had also reached there. It is being told that the situation in Himachal was discussed there and talks have been held with the leaders of the state in this regard.
The problem of the Congress government is that it cannot ignore the illegal mosques being built everywhere in the state because at the instigation of BJP as well as Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, local people are taking to the streets against such mosques. After Shimla and Mandi, people at some other places protested against mosques and especially the illegal construction taking place there. Suddenly an atmosphere started to develop against outsiders. It was said that Muslims coming from Uttar Pradesh are settling in Himachal and building mosques. After the Shimla and Mandi agitation, the Congress government was on the backfoot and then on the lines of the Uttar Pradesh government, it ordered to write the names of the shopkeepers on the food shops.
This is an attempt to change the narrative. The Congress government felt that with this it would create a new narrative against the mosque issue. The message will be sent among Hindus that the government is not following the policy of appeasement. But the narrative that has been created by the illegal construction of mosques, outsiders coming to the state and doing business and the order to write the name of shopkeepers on food shops, Congress is having to answer to in the entire country. The statement given by Himachal’s PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh on these issues in front of the media and the information about the decision to write the names went a long way. After this, a campaign against Congress started with true and false Muslim accounts active on social media. Congress also started being described as similar to BJP. The social media team of Congress is trying to control this narrative or change its direction but is not getting success. Its first effect has been seen in Jammu and Kashmir, where National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has advised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to focus on Jammu and stop worrying about the Kashmir Valley. It is believed that Congress is contesting more seats in Jammu region, that is why Omar said this, but the real reason is that the credibility of Congress has been tarnished by the Himachal episode and the more active Congress can benefit the fundamentalist candidates supported by Jamaat.
