New Delhi. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor given for films, has been announced to be given to Mithun Chakraborty this year. Mithun Chakraborty, who has entertained millions of audiences with his brilliant acting for five decades, has worked in three hundred and fifty films. He won the National Award for his first film ‘Mrigaya’. Mithun Chakraborty was the favorite actor of the youth of India in the eighties and nineties. He was the first dancing superstar of Hindi films.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Monday, September 30, announced the Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Mithun Chakraborty. He will be honored at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8. Mithun Chakraborty has worked in more than three hundred and fifty films in Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia and Bhojpuri in a career spanning nearly five decades. He started his film career in 1976 with ‘Mrigaya’ and won the National Award for this very first film.
Mithun Chakraborty got his real recognition from ‘Disco Dancer’ released in 1982. He has received the National Award three times. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in January 2024. On receiving Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Mithun da said- To be honest, I am speechless after receiving such a prestigious award. Neither am I able to cry nor am I able to smile. It’s such a big thing. I have come back after fighting on the sidewalkThat boy has got such a big honor, I can’t even imagine. I dedicate this award to my family and fans around the world.
Mithun Chakraborty’s real name is Gaurang Chakraborty. After studying till graduation, he joined the Naxal movement. But later he separated from the movement to handle household responsibilities. Some time ago he had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Before that, Mamata Banerjee had sent him to Rajya Sabha.
