Delhi government will not be dismissed

Aam Aadmi Party has once again started making noise that BJP wants to topple its government. Aam Aadmi Party, which has been running the government in Delhi for the last nine and a half years, has created two narratives from the very first day. First, that the central government and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi are not allowing the government to work and second, that BJP is trying to topple the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi. The party has alleged many times that attempts are being made to buy its MLAs. MLAs have come out and said that an offer of Rs 20 crore or more has been made. It is a different matter that no one has ever presented any proof and no official complaint has been lodged against anyone. Keep in mind that when BJP made such an attempt in Jharkhand, evidence was also found there. MLAs were caught with money and many people were also sued. MLAs also had to go to jail. But nothing like this happened in Delhi.

Now once again Aam Aadmi Party has accused of trying to topple the government. This time it is a different matter than horse-trading of MLAs. Actually, recently a delegation of Delhi Pradesh BJP met President Draupadi Murmu and demanded the dismissal of the Delhi government. It has been said in their memorandum that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail for five months, cabinet meetings are not being held and due to this the functioning of the government is being adversely affected. On this basis, they have asked for the dismissal of the government. The President’s Secretariat has sent this memorandum to the Union Home Ministry with instructions for ‘appropriate action’. Aam Aadmi Party has made this an issue and has started saying that BJP wants to run the Delhi government from behind the scenes, so it is using tricks to get the government dismissed.

However, sources familiar with the BJP say that it has no intention of getting the Delhi government dismissed at this time. Even earlier, the BJP has never tried to topple the government because the mathematics of the Delhi Assembly is not such that the BJP can form the government in any way. In the 70-member Delhi Assembly, AAP has 62 MLAs and the BJP has only eight. It needs at least 28 MLAs to form its government. As far as the question of the tactics of dismissing the government is concerned, a knowledgeable leader of the BJP says that if the government is dismissed now, then all the anti-incumbency of nine and a half years will end. On the contrary, Arvind Kejriwal will become a martyr. He will start beating his chest among the people of Delhi and it will become difficult for the BJP to respond. The BJP can get any benefit only if President’s rule is imposed in Delhi like Jammu and Kashmir and elections are not held for a long time. But this is not possible. Therefore, the thinking is to let things continue as they are right now. BJP will definitely keep doing politics to create a narrative that Kejriwal is in jail and he is not able to work in Delhi.
