Imphal. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has demanded a unified command amid the violence that has been going on in the state for the last one week. He wants the state government to take over the command of all the security forces. Meanwhile, there were speculations about him offering his resignation throughout the day on Sunday. It is worth noting that eight people have died in Manipur in the last eight days. Manipur, which has been suffering from ethnic violence for about 15 months, has seen drone and rocket attacks this month.

However, the discussion of N Biren Singh’s resignation started because he met Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya twice in 16 hours. He reached to meet the Governor on Sunday, September 8 at around 12 noon. Before this, he had also met the Governor on Saturday, September 7 at 8 pm. This meeting lasted for about 30 minutes. Before this, Biren Singh had also met all the MLAs in the presence of Chief Minister.

According to informed sources, Biren Singh may resign. He had also offered to resign on 20 June last year. However, he later changed his decision. On the other hand, amid the talk of resignation, Biren Singh has demanded a unified command from the Governor. In this, the command of all security agencies will come to the state government. At present, it is under the control of the central government.

It is worth noting that violence has been going on between the Kuki and Maiti communities in Manipur since May 2023. Violence has increased in the last eight days. Eight people have died in this. More than 15 are injured. The discussion of the resignation of the Chief Minister also started because the Chief Secretary who had gone on leave due to illness has been recalled immediately. Apart from this, an organization of Kuki militants declared a public emergency in the state.

However, amid the increasing violence in the state, Chief Minister Biren Singh has made eight demands to Governor Laxman Acharya. It says that the state government should be given rights and responsibilities as per the constitution. Along with this, the Chief Minister has demanded the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations Agreement with the Kuki militants, so that the security forces can take action against the Kuki militants with full force. He has also talked about starting the Citizen Registration Register i.e. NRC and expelling all illegal immigrants.
