Dhoni Playing IPL-2025: It is now impossible for MS Dhoni to play IPL 2025...

Dhoni Playing IPL-2025: Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has given an important statement regarding the playing of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He told that Dhoni has not yet given any confirmation regarding his playing, but the team is hopeful that he will be available for this season.

Under the new rules of IPL, 43-year-old MS Dhoni can be included by Chennai Super Kings as an uncapped player. However, no formal update has come from the team regarding this yet. Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, but his presence in the IPL is still very special for the fans and the team.

Dhoni’s final decision regarding playing

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Vishwanathan informed the media that it is not yet clear to him whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will play in the IPL 2025 season or not. CSK management wants Dhoni to remain a part of the team next season also, and they are fully prepared to retain him. However, the final decision on this will be Dhoni’s only. The IPL mega auction is likely to take place in late November. Earlier, Dhoni has assured that he will inform the team about his decision by 31st October. October 31 is also the last date for submitting the retain list of teams for IPL 2025. CSK management and fans hope that Dhoni will play one more season with the team.

Rituraj took over the captaincy in 2024

Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the IPL 2023 title. After this the team handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad for the next season. However, last season the Chennai team could not qualify for the playoffs and lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league match.

Now Dhoni can play in IPL as an uncapped player. IPL has re-implemented an old rule, under which players who have retired from the Indian team five years ago can participate in the auction as uncapped players. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, but his last match was played in 2019.

According to this rule, by the 2025 IPL, it will be five years since Dhoni’s retirement and his last match. This rule was never used before, so it was removed in 2021. But now CSK can take advantage of this rule and include Dhoni in the team for Rs 4 crore, so that the fans can get a chance to see Dhoni in the yellow jersey once again.
