Five MLAs will be nominated after the results

New Delhi. Five MLAs will be nominated soon after the results of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are declared on Tuesday, October 8. On the orders of the Home Ministry, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will nominate five people to the Assembly. After this the total number of MLAs will become 95 and the majority figure will increase to 48. Congress and its allies and many constitutional experts are apprehensive about this. He says that the nominated MLAs will be of BJP’s ideology and it will also benefit from it.

However, after the abrogation of Article 370, a provision was made to nominate five MLAs in the Assembly under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. This rule was brought to increase the representation of women, Kashmiri Pandits and those displaced from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. This was revised in July 2023. These nominated MLAs will get all legislative powers and privileges along with voting rights in the Assembly.
