Patna. All major rivers in Bihar including Kosi River and Gandak are in spate. However, it is a matter of relief that there has been a reduction in water discharge at Kosi Barrage of Veerpur and Gandak Barrage of Valmikinagar. More than four lakh people in 31 blocks of 16 districts of the state are affected by the floods. According to the Water Resources Department, the inflow of Kosi at Veerpur Barrage was 2,65,530 cusecs at 6 am on Monday, while at 10 am it has come down to 2,54,385 cusecs. Similarly, the water inflow of Gandak at Valmikinagar Barrage at 10 am is also 1,55,600 lakh cusecs. Meanwhile, all the major rivers of the state are flowing above the danger mark. According to the Disaster Management Department, due to the increase in the water level of Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Mahananda and other rivers, 16 districts East Champaran, West Champaran, Araria, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Supaul, Siwan, Madhepura, Muzaffarpur, Purnia. More than 4 lakh population in 152 gram panchayats in 31 blocks of Madhubani, Darbhanga, Saran and Saharsa has been affected by the floods.
A total of 12 teams of NDRF and 12 teams of SDRF have been deployed to safely evacuate the population affected by the flood. Apart from this, three NDRF teams have been called from Varanasi. It was told that 630 boats are being operated to transport people to safe places. Apart from this, 43 relief camps are being run for the flood victims, in which more than 11 thousand people are taking shelter. It is noteworthy that due to heavy rain in Nepal, there was a discharge of 6,61,295 cusecs of water from Kosi Barrage, Veerpur at 5 am on Sunday, which is the highest since 1968. The Water Resources Department claims that the Water Resources Department teams are ready day and night to protect the embankments. However, due to damage to many embankments, the flood situation in many districts has become dire.
