Formation of Third Front in Maharashtra

In the assembly elections to be held in November in Maharashtra, there will be a direct contest between two alliances. On one side is the Mahayuti running the government and on the other side is the opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi. In the Mahayuti, there is talk of seat sharing between BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, while on the other hand in the Mahavikas Aghadi, Congress, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar are also brainstorming on seat sharing. There is also a tussle on both sides regarding deciding the CM candidate. Meanwhile, a third alliance is being prepared. Three big leaders in the state, who lead different social groups and are known for their independent politics, have joined hands. Although it cannot be said whose votes they will cut, but both sides are apprehensive about this third alliance.

Two former MPs Sambhaji Chhatrapati and Raju Shetti along with independent MLA Bacchu Kadu have formed Parivartan Mahashakti. Sambhaji Chhatrapati was made an MP by the BJP and he is a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. So, it is obvious that he does politics of Maratha votes. Raju Shetti runs Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan and has formed a party named Swabhimani Paksha. It is clear from the name itself that he does farmer politics. The third leader is Bacchu Kadu, who comes from the Dalit community. So, an organization of Maratha, farmer and Dalit leaders has been formed. There is also Prakash Ambedkar’s party, which will try its luck in the elections. It remains to be seen whether there is any coordination with this alliance or not. But the party of three big leaders and leaders representing different groups can create problems for both the big alliances on many seats.
