2 auspicious times for Ganpati immersion
Today on Anant Chaturdashi, there are 2 Muhurtas in the day for Ganpati Visarjan. You can do the Visarjan as per your convenience, but keep in mind that this work should be done before sunset. According to the scriptures, idols are not immersed after sunset.
It is okay to immerse the idol at home. In this regard, it is said in Brahmapuran and Mahabharata that polluting rivers is a sin, therefore Ganesh ji should be immersed in a pot or a new big vessel filled with water. The first Muhurta for Ganpati immersion is from 9.30 am to 2 pm. The second Muhurta is from 3.35 to 5 pm.
How did the tradition of Ganpati Visarjan start?
Maharishi Ved Vyas was looking for a good writer to write the Mahabharata. Maharishi Ved Vyas requested the first revered Shri Ganesh for this. Ganpati ji accepted Ved Vyas ji’s request. But he put a condition that as long as Maharishi Ved Vyas ji speaks without stopping, Ganesh ji will also write without stopping. Maharishi Ved Vyas ji started speaking the Mahabharata from Ganesh Chaturthi and Ganesh ji wrote the Mahabharata for 10 days without stopping. (Ganpati visarjan history)
Due to writing non-stop, the heat in Ganeshji’s body started increasing. After the completion of the Mahabharata story, Vedvyas bathed Ganeshji in the lake. Then the temperature of Ganeshji’s body decreased and from then onwards the tradition of celebrating Ganesh Visarjan started. That day was the day of Anant Chaturdashi. From then onwards the immersion of Ganpati Bappa started.
