Kolkata. Till now, opposition parties used to ask the government to account for its earnings and expenditure, but now starting a new tradition, West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has asked for account of money from the Mamata Banerjee government of the state. He has asked for details of the expenditure of Rs 1.17 lakh crore received from the Center in the financial year 2023-24. For this, he has written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.
It is being said that the Governor had received information from somewhere that the State Government has not presented several reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the Assembly in violation of its constitutional obligation. For this reason he has written a letter asking for a report. Apart from this, Bose has also suggested the state government to initiate the process of presenting the CAG report in the Assembly. The Governor has also urged for the release of a white paper on the fiscal position of the state.
Governor Bose has written in the letter that the state government has also got benefits from the Finance Commission. He has written – Out of the Rs 2.13 lakh crore revenue of West Bengal in the financial year 2023-24, the Center alone gave Rs 1.17 lakh crore, which was about 55 percent of the total revenue of the state. Bose also said that the Bengal government has not yet presented the six audit reports of the CAG in the Assembly. Referring to Article 151, he said that under this article the audit report of CAG related to the accounts of the state should be submitted to the Governor.
