New Delhi. India has expressed displeasure with Canada after the program of setting up a Consulate camp by the Indian High Commission in Canada was postponed. The Foreign Ministry has said that these camps were not organized due to inadequate security being provided by the Government of Canada. It is noteworthy that recently, Khalistan supporters had attacked the temple of Hindu Sabha while setting up a camp. Only when the remaining Consulate camps did not receive adequate security from the Canadian side were they cancelled.
The Indian Consulate General based in Toronto gave this information by posting on the social media platform X. It says – Canadian security agencies have refused to provide security to the Consulate camps, so we have decided to close the camps. Regarding the cancellation of the camp program of the Indian Embassy in Canada, the Ministry of External Affairs also said in Delhi that this decision has been taken due to lack of adequate security assurance.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Indian diplomats have been intimidated, threatened and harassed in Canada over the past year or more. The ministry said that all these actions are unacceptable and we have strongly raised this issue with Canada. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said- We had demanded to provide security for our diplomats where the consular camp was to be organized, but security was not provided by Canada. For the last one year or more, we have seen things like attacks on Indian diplomats, intimidation, threats, harassment etc.
In fact, on September 27, the Consulate General had announced to set up 14 camps in different cities of Canada for pension certificates. These camps were to be held from November 2 to 23 in Winnipeg, Brampton, Halifax and Oakville. But now some of these camps will not be organized due to lack of security. It is noteworthy that in Canada, all the people who get pension from the Indian Government, have to submit a life certificate. For this, camps are organized by the Indian High Commission every year in November.
To help the people of cities which are far away from the High Commission, camps are organized in religious places like Gurudwaras and temples. People have to give their names to the embassy a week before the camp to get the certificate. The same camp was organized on November 3 at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton. This temple is the largest temple in Brampton and surrounding areas. Similar camps were also set up in Surrey and Calgary.
