Bengaluru. Due to the poor performance of the Indian batsmen in the first innings, India lost a Test match at home to New Zealand after 36 years. Although the Indian batsmen performed brilliantly in the second innings, it proved not to be enough to save the match. New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the rain-affected first Test match in Bengaluru. Earlier, India had last lost to New Zealand at home in 1988 at Wankhede Stadium.
The Indian team had given a target of 107 runs to New Zealand to win, which the visiting team achieved by losing two wickets on the last day of the match on Sunday. Will Young returned unbeaten on 45 and Rachin Ravindra scored 39 runs. Team India was all out for 462 runs in the second innings. In the first innings, New Zealand scored 402 runs and India scored only 46 runs. This is the lowest score not only by India but by any Asian team in a Test innings.
After this defeat, Team India has lagged 0-1 in the three-match series. This will affect India’s chances in the Test Cricket World Cup also. The second match of the series will be played in Pune from 24 to 28 October. It is noteworthy that in the first test, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat, which proved to be wrong. Indian batsmen could not stand the pace of New Zealand’s fast bowling and the entire team was out for 46 runs. All the wickets went to the fast bowlers. Five batsmen of the team could not even open their account.
However, after losing the first match, there have been changes in the Indian team for the second and third matches of the Test series against New Zealand. All-rounder Washington Sundar has been included in the team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI gave this information on Sunday. Sundar will join the team in Pune before the second Test. The team for the next two matches will be as follows, Rohit Sharma (Captain), Jasprit Bumrah (Vice Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK ), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Washington Sundar.
