New Delhi. India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has announced that he will retire from cricket after the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season this year, bringing an end to his 17-year-long career. Saha is currently busy preparing for Bengal’s fourth round match against Karnataka in Bengaluru. He informed about this decision on social media. He wrote on X: After a memorable journey in cricket, this will be my last season. It is an honor for me to retire while playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy. Let’s make this season special. 39-year-old Saha had distanced himself from the team due to the dispute with the Bengal team in 2022-23. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary Debabrata Das had accused him of making excuses to avoid playing. But this season, Saha returned to the team and played in the first two matches of Ranji Trophy.
Saha has played 40 Tests for India, scoring 1353 runs, including three centuries and six half-centuries. He remained associated with Team India for a long time, but with the arrival of Rishabh Pant, it became difficult for him to make a place in the team, although he continued to be included as the second wicketkeeper many times. Saha last played for India in December 2021 and was released from the central contract in 2023. Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Gujarat Titans did not retain him. Saha is one of the few players who has played in the IPL every season since 2008. He has also previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings. In the 2014 final, when Punjab Kings finished runners-up, Saha scored a historic century by scoring an unbeaten 115 off 55 balls.
