Kolkata. Junior doctors of Kolkata have intensified their protest against the incident of rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital. After starting the strike again, now six junior doctors have started a hunger strike. The doctors had started protesting at Dorina crossing in Dharmatala area on October 4. He had given 24 hours time to Mamata government to fulfill his nine demands.
The time given to the state government ended at 8.30 pm on Saturday, October 5. After this, six representatives of West Bengal Junior Doctor Front started a fast unto death. Junior doctors have put forward nine demands to the government, including removal of Health Secretary NS Nigam and fixing accountability for corruption in the health department. The doctors told that to maintain the transparency of the hunger strike, they will install CCTV on the stage, so that everyone can see what is happening there.
It is noteworthy that the junior doctors of Bengal had gone on strike for 42 days from 10 August to 21 September against the incident of rape and murder. The doctors had placed five demands before the government. Of these, the government had accepted three demands. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had assured to consider two other demands and conditions. After this the doctors ended the strike and returned to work in hospitals.
After this, on September 27, a case of beating of three doctors and three nurses came to light in Sagor Dutta Hospital, due to which the doctors, angry with them, started the strike again on October 1. On October 4, the junior doctors called off the strike, but continued their strike. He said that we are returning to work because a large number of patients are facing problems in government hospitals. However, he had given an ultimatum of 24 hours to the state government.
